Good news for travelers planning a trip to Bohol! Whale shark watching is expected to resume in November 2026, following a suspension aimed at strengthening marine wildlife protection and promoting responsible tourism.
According to a September 2026 report by DYRD Bohol ang Kasaligan, the original whale shark interaction site in Lila is expected to reopen, while operators in Alburquerque are also preparing to resume activities.
What’s Changing?
The provincial government is introducing stricter regulations to ensure that whale shark tourism is conducted responsibly.
Under the new guidelines, operators must comply with environmental requirements, including prohibitions on feeding and touching whale sharks, minimum interaction distances, and limits on tourism activities.
The recent DYRD report also indicates a proposed operating season from November to July, with a three-month closure from August to October to allow marine wildlife time for natural migration and ecosystem recovery.
However, the revised schedule and reopening of individual tour sites remain subject to official confirmation.
